Silky’s Blade Finishes Help Your Saw Last and Perform
If you’ve ever gotten your saw stuck cutting, or you’ve had a tree or branch you’re cutting spring back, the wood you were curing was under compression and tension. Wood under compression and tension requires extra care when you’re cutting to keep your saw free and to keep you safe.
If you have a Silky or have handled one, you likely noticed the fine blade finishes Silky uses. Silky finishes its blades with one of three coatings. The first is a shiny chrome plating, like on the Pocketboy, Gomboy and Bigboy. Chrome plating on Silky saw blades makes the blade surface hard and long-wearing, and it reduces friction when you saw. Chrome plating also increases the lifetime of the saw blade, protecting it from rust and resin.
In some saws, like the Zubat Ultimate Professional, Silky applies nickel coating to the blade. Nickel pours well to cover the edges of a saw blade, creating a smooth surface with less waste. Nickel plating is applied after the teeth are ground into the blade which helps protect the teeth from rust and keep them sharp.
Black plating, which is found on all Silky Outback products, coats the blade and teeth in a highly durable nickel/tin blend that provides longer blade life and improved cutting performance. Black plating also reduces reflection, which makes black-plated saws ideal for hunting and other activities where stealth is key.
