Silky Releases a Limited Edition Gomboy Kuro to Celebrate the Gomboy’s 40th!

To celebrate forty years of the legendary Gomboy saw, Silky proudly introduces the Gomboy Kuro: a special anniversary edition of the best-selling Gomboy. The Gomboy Kuro encompasses everything Silky users know and love about the Gomboy 240 Curve—its smooth, powerful cutting action, versatile size, and effortless precision—reimagined in stealth black. With a glare-free oxide blade, a textured, black, non-slip Outback handle, and a rugged black flip-lock belt case, the Gomboy Kuro performs in the toughest conditions while its distinguished looks make it a true collector’s piece. Silky is making just 5,000 total Gomboy Kuros for worldwide distribution, making this a one-time release you won’t want to miss.

When Shozo Miyawaki and Yoshitaka Sumimoto designed the Gomboy in 1985, they transformed the world of hand saws. At a time when nearly every saw featured plastic or wooden handles, the Gomboy debuted with the first-ever rubberized grip reinforced by a rigid steel frame for torsional stability and to protect the saw blade.

Evolution of the Gomboy from 1985 to 2025

Originally embraced by Japanese carpenters, the Gomboy quickly became indispensable to arborists, trail crews, and outdoor enthusiasts everywhere. Today, this easy-to-carry pruning saw remains Silky’s best-selling saw in Japan, a top seller in the U.S., and a trusted tool for anyone who values efficiency, strength, and precision, from campers and trail stewards to homeowners and property managers who need to clear limbs and other debris.

The blacked-out Gomboy Kuro is a Gomboy Curve, which was introduced in 2015. The Curve is an evolution of the classic straight blade Gomboy folding saw, but with a curved blade for more cutting power. The Gomboy Kuro has the Gomboy 240's taper-ground blade with electrical induction hardened teeth set in a triple-edge, non-set tooth design for low-effort sawing. Scraper-shaped GOKAI-ME teeth efficiently clear sawdust and deliver top performance in rip, cross, and slant cuts. The blade’s locking mechanism has two positions for inline or flush cutting. The 9.45-inch black oxide blade is also glare-free. It attaches to the Kuro’s non-slip composite Outback handle, now in stealth black.

The Gomboy Kuro embodies everything that makes Silky exceptional and its quality is a reflection of the patience, skill, and dedication of the Japanese craftsmen who build Silky saws. Whether you’re clearing storm debris, maintaining a trail, camping deep in the backcountry, cutting dimensional lumber, or simply pruning at home, the Kuro offers the perfect balance of power, portability, and control. More than a tool, it is a work of art built to be used and admired.

As with all Silky saws, the Gomboys and the Gomboy Kuro are produced in Japan from raw materials sourced in Japan. Get yours while supplies last.
